Karts BASIC RACE RULES
All WKA rules apply except where noted otherwise
1. Each entry will draw for heat position.(no qualifying) Races are hand scored.
2. There will be one heat and one feature per class. If there are more than 8 entries, the class will be split up
into two heats. Heat "A" will determine the inside row. Heat "B" will determine the outside row in the feature. If
you are unable to make your assigned heat, you can NOT enter the track in the other heat. You will simply be
placed on the rear of the feature line up.
Class size is limited to 12 entries to start the feature. If there are more than 12 entries, there will be a
consolation race. Generally, five positions will be guaranteed from the each of the two heats. The consolation
races will determine the remaining 2 positions to transfer to the feature.
3. 8-Lap Heats, 15-Lap Features, [6 lap heats and 10 lap features for the Novice Classes], (this could vary for
larger, special events.) 100+ entries; 8 lap Heats, 12 lap features]. The Track Officials reserve the right to
decrease the total number of laps in any given race, due to time constraints or safety on the track. If a race is
called prior to 15 Laps, the final results will be determined to the LAST completed lap under a green condition.
4.The race is official after one completed lap. The event is official after completion of heats.
5. Unless otherwise decided, by track officials, there will be a specific time limit set to all classes. If the feature
is 15 laps, a 12 minute time limit will be in effect from the initial green. 12-Lap feature will be 10 minutes. Eight
lap heats will be allowed 6 minutes to be completed. Upon expiration of time, as determined by the time keeper,
there will be a white flag displayed, followed by the checkered flag. If time expires during a caution, a green,
white, checkered flag will be given to end the race, Timing stops during a red flag condition or a track official
time out can be given to re-align the racers or for any safety concerns.
Unless for safety reasons only, do NOT exit your kart while on the track unless directed to do so by a track
official. When in doubt, stay in your kart. This is for safety reasons.
6. NO HOT PITS, NO EXCEPTIONS, TURN OFF MOTOR AT SCALES---The approach to the scales, is the cut-
off point for the motors AT ALL TIMES!!!, even during practice before heats.
7. No one is allowed past the gate at the entrance to the track from the grid. You are only allowed there if there
is an emergency on YOUR entry only. Track officials will warn you ONE time only, after which, your entry will be
disqualified if the violation occurs again.Kart Rules

MOTORS:
WKA Motor rules will apply. All racers are encouraged to obtain a WKA Tech Manual and to learn the rules.
You may obtain a manual by calling 1-800-262-0555 (American Power Sports) or by calling the WKA Office at
704-455-1606.
(With the exception of the use of the aftermarket billet rod which will be allowed)
PAINTED AREAS ON MOTOR:
It is the responsibility of the driver to make sure his kart is PAINTED BY THE TECH OFFICIAL in the grid in
respective places before heat race. If you are in impound after feature race, and your kart is not painted, you
will be disqualified.
CHANGING OF MOTORS:
If you change motors or change any part that requires removing the surface of the painted area, you must first
notify tech official and any changes must be done in his presence. If a motor is changed, that motor will be held
in impound till the races and tech are completed. By notifying the tech official prior to your changes, you will be
allowed to race starting in the rear of line-up.
SCALES & WEIGHING:
All karts are required to go directly to scales after heat race, and feature race. If you fail to cross scales, we will
assume you are light and will be disqualified from that race.
WEIGHTS:
All weights must be securely bolted to the kart frame. IT MUST BE double bolted or pinned to insure safety in
competition. ANY WEIGHT ATTACHED TO KART MUST BE PAINTED WITH THE NUMBER OF THE KART WITH
WHITE PAINT. WKA weight rules apply. All racers are encouraged to obtain a WKA Tech Manual and to learn
the rules. You may obtain a manual by calling 1-800-262-0555 (American Power Sports) or by calling the WKA
Office at 704-455-1606.
CHANGING KARTS:
A driver may not change karts from the heat race to the feature and be able to maintain his/her earned
position. They may start at the rear of the line-up.
CONDUCT:
All drivers shall conduct themselves in an orderly manner. Physical violence or verbal abuse of any individual,
official, participant, spectator, etc. will not be tolerated and will be cause for immediate ejection from the event
and possible suspension from future events. Drivers will be held directly responsible for the actions of their
entire crew.
PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES:
All participants, crewmembers, and spectators at the event shall be sober and not under the influence of any
substance that may impair their ability to participate in a safe and orderly manner. If you are identified with
alcoholic beverages or drugs on the premises, this will be cause for ejection from the grounds and suspension
from future events.
DRIVERS MEETING:
A drivers meeting will be held prior to racing each day. It is mandatory for all drivers to attend the meeting.
Drivers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We may do a random roll count of class
entrants to insure everyone is attending. We may hold a separate drivers meeting for all drivers 12 & under.
TIRES:
Racing slicks only (except in Yard Kart Class). We will not be enforcing the WKA Spec Tire Rule Except in all
the Champ Kart Classes.
MUFFLERS:
RLV Muffler prefered.
CATCH CANS:
Catch Cans May not be attached to the back bumper. See WKA Specs.
RACING ATTIRE:
Helmets: All helmets used at Raceway-insured events must be Snell 05 or newer. Junior drivers, under 16 yrs of
age, are not required to use Snell 95 because of unavailability of sizes smaller than 6 7/8. Snell 95 are strongly
recommended where the Jr driver can be properly fit. (Snell 70 or Z90 or newer, and/or S.H.C.A standard
helmets required.
Gloves: Required in all kart divisions.
Face Shields: Or goggles are mandatory
Jackets: All drivers shall be required to wear jackets of heavyweight leather, heavyweight vinyl material, or
approved heavyweight abrasion resistant nylon material, full length pants, and high top shoes or boots to
prevent or minimize abrasions. The Race officials may modify or supplement this rule to require any additional
protective clothing deemed necessary for the drivers. Crash helmets, goggles, face shields, and jackets to be
used by the drivers must also be available for technical inspection.
CHAIN GUARDS:
Chain guards are mandatory on all karts.
NUMBERS:
Numbers must be on both sides, front and back. Numbers should be visible to the scoring tower and corner
officials. Numbers to be a minimum of 6 inches in height. ALL KARTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO DISPLAY ONE
NUMBER PANEL ON REAR OF KART (NO EXCEPTIONS). you MUST have readable numbers on your kart for
the staff to officiate the event. If told by the staff that your numbers are non allowable, you will be disqualified
for the event if not fixed by the feature. If you sign up with a duplicate number already signed into the event,
you MUST change your number for scoring purposes. We cannot let two entries on the track with the same
number. This will be a first come-first served guideline in determining who has to change numbers.
GRID RULES:
When you line-up in the grid, you should be race ready Tire covers, warmers, kart buggies, refueling or
working on karts will not be allowed in the grid.
RACE STARTS:
Original Race Starts shall be between turn 4 and the finish line by flagman. Acceleration is not allowed until the
2 lead karts have reached the white starting line. The two leads karts must be side by side in order for flagman
to give the Green Flag. Anyone accelerating before the lead karts pass the white line will be penalized. There
will be 2 attempts to start the race double file, then we will go single file. The flagman may, at any time, have the
option to start the complete field single file, or penalize any kart he deems responsible for the non-start.
RESTARTS:
On Restarts, all karts will be in single file, and will restart the race behind a yellow cone on front straight by the
Flagman. You must pass the cone on the outside of racing surface and you will not be allowed to pass another
kart until you have passed the cone. Anyone passing another kart before passing the yellow cone will be
scored in rear. We will not stop the race to put you in the rear, you will just be scored in the rear.
CREWMEMBER ON INFIELD:
One crewmember per kart is allowed on infield prior to race starts. They must be on infield before racing begins
and standing in the designated area. Any crewmember crossing the racing surface after racing starts will cause
their kart to be black-flagged. Starters cannot be thrown across racing surface.
RESTARTING KARTS:
In Heat races, if your kart malfunctions before a completed green flag lap, you may restart and return to the
race. You will only be allowed two re-starts. After 1 green flag lap is completed, if your kart malfunctions & stalls,
you must go to the infield till race is completed.
In Feature Race, if your kart malfunctions prior to a completed green flag lap, you may restart & return to race.
After 1 green flag lap is completed, if your kart malfunctions, you will be given 2 courtesy laps to restart and
return to race in rear.
YELLOW FLAG:
We do not race back to yellow flag after a caution is called. We will go back to the previous lap for line up
position. All karts bringing out the yellow or red flag will go to the rear of line-up. The Track reserves the right to
make a judgmental call in all red or yellow flag conditions.
THE YELLOW FLAG MEANS TO SLOW DOWN. The Official Yellow is the yellow light and the Flagman’s yellow
flag, not the infield workers. They are there to warn you of situations on the track.
Working on karts during Yellow Flag situations are NOT ALLOWED, but if TRACK OFFICIALS stops karts on
the track for realignment, and the motor dies, they will be allowed to restart the kart.
Anyone bringing out the yellow flag for the 2nd time, will be disqualified for the remainder of the race and will
receive the black flag.
RED FLAG:
RED FLAG MEANS TO STOP IMMEDIATELY. Failure to do so will be cause for disqualification from race. Karts
on the track during a red flag will be allowed to restart their engines. No repairs will be allowed during a red flag
situation.
BLUE FLAG:
Blue Flag means you are a lapped kart and you must give way to faster kart. Failure to give way when you are
lapped may be cause for a black flag or disqualification.
ROLLED UP BLACK FLAG:
The rolled up black flag warning means the officials deem you are driving unnecessarily rough or bumping too
hard, etc. You will receive only 1 rolled black flag signal. If flag is ignored, the next black flag you see will not be
rolled up.
BLACK FLAG:
This means you are to leave the track immediately or pull to infield for balance of race.
This black flag will also be given if officials feel kart is unsafe to continue. When you receive the black flag,
leave the track immediately or further penalties may occur.
ROUGH DRIVING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND WILL BE DEALT WITH SWIFTLY!!!!
CONCERNING SPINOUTS:
Anyone spinning out, therefore, bringing out a yellow flag condition, will automatically go to the rear of the field
upon restart. If you cause another kart to spin out and it was determined, BY TRACK OFFICIALS, that you were
at fault, YOU WILL ALSO GO TO REAR. Spinouts due to trying to avoid a wreck, will not be penalized, unless it
is determined by track officials, that you had ample opportunity to avoid the accident. This will be a call made by
TRACK OFFICIALS ONLY.
INITIAL LAP SPINOUTS:
Any spinout, even those on the initial lap before it is scored, if the green flag has been given, will be penalized
by being placed in the rear of the field. On the initial start or restart, it will be the track official’s decision as to
who caused the spinout or who was responsible for bringing the yellow flag out. That driver or drivers will be
placed In the rear. The lap does not have to be scored or completed for a spinout to be penalized if we are
under green flag conditions. If you cause a yellow flag situation thinking you will get a complete restart, you will
be placed in the rear. The intentional bringing out of the yellow flag will not be tolerated.
WHITE FLAG & SPINOUTS:
Unless a racer is in eminent danger, there will be NO YELLOW FLAG CAUTION AFTER THE WHITE FLAG IS
DISPLAYED. It will be up to track officials to make any and all decisions concerning scoring spinouts on the final
lap.
IMPOUND AREA:
Top 3 feature finishers must go to impound area. This is the responsibility of driver or parent to make sure they
go directly to impound area. Take your helmet, gloves, etc and leave the area.
Do not remove your kart from impound area until TECH OFFICIAL gives you the okay.
No driver or pit crewmember is allowed in impound during inspection unless the TECH OFFICIAL asks you to be
there. IF YOU ARE RACING IN MORE THAN 1 CLASS, YOU MUST NOTIFY TECH OFFICIAL BEFORE YOU
LEAVE IMPOUND TO RACE THE OTHER RACE.
FUEL TESTS:
All karts are subject to fuel & oil test. All first Place karts will have fuel checked, illegal fuel will result in driver
losing points for that days race, but will not be grounds for suspension.
RESTRICTOR PLATES:
All restrictor plate karts are subject to a restrictor plate check. All first place karts with restrictor plates will have
the plate checked. All restrictor plates must be flat type accepted by WKA rules.
TECHS:
All tech inspections will be made in accordance with WKA Tech Manual. A minimum of 1 class will be teched at
each event. A pill will be drawn to determine the class to be teched. The first place kart will draw the pill to
determine what will be teched. Example: Cam, Carburetor, Bore, Head, etc.
PROTESTS:
Protests must be provided in writing to a track official within 15 minutes of completion of the race in which
protested kart participated along with the proper fee:
Protest Fees- $25 for Fuel or Restrictor Plate
$100 for Engine tear down per WKA
Only 1 kart may be protested by any one individual. Only karts placing behind and no further than 5th place will
be allowed to protest. If the protested kart is found to be legal, the kart making the protest will loose $100. The
protested kart will receive $75 and the Track will receive $25. If the protested kart is found to be illegal, the kart
making the protest will receive the $100 back and the protested illegal kart will pay a fine of $25. THE FINE
MUST BE PAID OR THE ILLEGAL KART WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RACE AT FUTURE RACES.
During the tear down of a protested kart, only 1 representative from that kart will be allowed in tech room, along
with the protestor.
Refusal to tech under protested inspection will cost the driver points for the day and suspension from 4 future
races. If 2nd refusal to tech occurs, kart & driver will be suspended from the track for balance of year.

Stock Heavy: Age 15 & Over- weight 375#- Max Kart weight is 200#- Briggs & Stratton Stock 5 HP- Methanol
Fuel Only-
Yard Karts: Age 6-8 years- Briggs & Stratton Box Stock 5 HP- Fuel is Gas Only- Purple (.425) restrictor plate.

Rookie: Age 8-12 years-Weight 265#- Briggs & Stratton Stock 5 HP- Purple (.425) Restrictor Plate

Burris M15A or B, ss44 and ss55's

up to this class, he/she will not be allowed to race in Jr. Sportsman Champ Class.
Stock Super Heavy: Age 15 & over- Weight 400#- Briggs & Stratton Stock 5 HP- Methanol fuel only-
Driver weight Minimum 200#.
Yard Karts
1. WEIGHT: 255#
2. Safety Equipment: All Karts must be equipped with a seatbelt, shoulder harness, and arm
Restraints. All drivers are required to wear suit/or jacket, gloves, neck brace, helmet, long sleeve shirt and long
pants. Drivers must wear arm restraints.
3. Frame: All karts must be equipped with a roll cage designed to protect the driver. The frame must
be welded directly to the main structure at a minimum of 4 places, with 2 in front and 2 in rear. The frame of the
kart cannot exceed 4” from the ground in clearance measured at the front and rear axle. All karts must be
equipped with a back bumper which extends across the back of kart to within 1” of outside of rear tires.
4. Brakes: Stock brake system is allowed but disc brakes are strongly recommended.
5. Spindles: Spindles must be of standard fun kart design and spindle brackets must be welded
directly to a straight axle which must be part of the main structure of the frame.
6. Clutch: Noram or Max-torgue clutch only will be allowed. No Horstman racing clutches will be
allowed.
7. Gears: Split axle gears will be allowed.
8. Chain: 35# or 40# chain allowed. Chain guards are mandatory.
9. Crank Rope: Crank rope must remain attached to the engine.
10. Restrictor Plate: All Karts will be equipped with a .425 purple restrictor plate.
11. Fuel: Fuel must be pump gasoline only. Maximum Octane is 93%- No fuel additives allowed.
12. Kill Switch: A push button kill switch or toggle switch must be mounted on kart on steering
wheel or nearby within easy reach of driver.
13. Engine: Engine must be a 5 HP Briggs Stratton. Engine must be unaltered box stock with the
following allowances: Motor can be bored up to maximum of .020 (twenty thousands). You may remove the
choke and governor. There will be a $350 “Motor Buy” in yard kart class by fellow competitors placing behind
and no further than 3rd place will be allowed to “buy” motor of top two finishers only. You must run a stock
breather and stock muffler. No headers are allowed and no muffler on header allowed. Engine must be located
directly behind driver on a plate type
mount and welded to main structure of kart. Engine must have positive throttle return spring.
Carburetor must be a 5 HP only.
14. Protests: No protests will be allowed in yard kart class, your only option is to buy motor. Any
one competitor may “buy” only 1 motor per season.
15. Wheels: Wheels must be 2 pc non-adjustable type only. PART # 1144 Azusa 5 inch Diameter by
3 inches wide (Front) PART # 1117 Azusa 6 inch Diameter by 4 inches wide (Rear) Only.
16. Tires: Tires must be Turf Type only, no slicks allowed. Tire Height is Maximum of 13”, Tire width
on Front is 4” only – example: 11x400x5—Tire width on Rear is 5” only—example: 13x500x6.
THESE RULES ARE DESIGNED TO KEEP THE YARD KART CLASS A FUN CLASS FOR LEARNING
PURPOSES AND TO KEEP THE COST CONTAINED SO MORE RACERS CAN AFFORD TO PARTICIPATE. IF
YOU ARE NOT CLEAR ON ANY RULE, CHECK WITH A MEMBER OF TRACK MANAGEMENT BEFORE
ASSUMING LEGALITY.
Stock Kart Outlaw Rules
All drivers must be 7- 15 years of age. All drivers must have a copy of birth certificate or driver’s license and
release form signed by both parents on file before being allowed to compete.
Specifications
1. Roll cages required. Minimum of 3 inches and maximum of 6 inches above driver’s helmet. Driver must be
covered head to feet. Cage must be mounted by clamping, bolting or welding to frame.
2. Cages must be made of a minimum 1” .095 wall tubing or 1” chromoly tubing equivalent to .095 mild steel.
3. Stock appearing 5 hp Briggs and Stratton only. Stock steel 5 hp flywheel only. .30 maximum overbore.
Aftermarket rod may be used. Stock length, stock style piston must be used. Cam lift: .233 cold maximum lift; .
237 hot maximum lift. Engine girdles may be used, not mandatory.
4. Stock Briggs and Stratton carburetors only. Swirl and choke may be removed. .500 (red in color) Horstman
restrictor must be used. (May be purchased from track) May be slotted for easy removal for tech. No fillers may
be added to inside of carburetor to change airflow.
5. Stock heads only. No aftermarket heads allowed. No blue printing other than gasket surface. (See Figure BB)
6. Cylinder deck height--piston .005” out of hole maximum at top dead center. Deck must remain above top of
valve seats.
7. Head gasket must have a minimum thickness of .043 checked halfway between head-bolt holes
8. Karts must weigh 275 pounds minimum with driver.
9. Methanol fuel only. NO ADDITIVES ALLOWED. Random fuel checks will be conducted.
10. All karts must have live rear axles.
11. 5 inch minimum, 6 inch maximum wheels. Racing style, grooved or slick tires only.
12. Friction style clutches only. No axle clutches.
13. Karts must be equipped with nerfing bars.
14. Brakes must be in good working order. Brake pedal must be securely fastened to assure it cannot come off
while kart is in motion.
15. Front and rear bumpers mandatory.
16. Chain guards are mandatory and must cover from front to rear sprocket.
17. Muffler silencers are mandatory and may not extend beyond rear bumper.
18. Karts are to be equipped with throttle return spring to close throttle when released.
19. Front steering shall be of suitable design and in proper order and properly adjusted for maximum safety.
Super Stock Karts (outlaws)
All Drivers must be 8-15 years of age. All drivers must have a copy of birth certificate or driver’s license and
release form signed by both parents on file before being allowed to compete.
Specifications
1. Roll cages required. Minimum of 3 inches and maximum of 6 inches above driver’s helmet. Must cover driver
head to feet. Cages must be mounted by clamping, bolting or welding to frame.
2. Cages must be made of a minimum 1” .095 wall tubing or 1” chromoly tubing equivalent to .095 mild steel.
3. Stock appearing 5hp Briggs and Stratton block. No Billet blocks. Billet flywheel must be used. No bore limit;
no stroke limit. Any style head may be used. Must have only one spark plug. Engine girdles mandatory.
4. Tilston or stock style carburetor allowed. Fuel tanks must be securely mounted.
5. Karts must weigh 355 pounds minimum with driver.
6. Methanol fuel only. NO ADDITIVES. Random fuel checks will be conducted.
7. All karts must have live rear axles.
8. 5 inch minimum, 6 inch maximum wheels.
9. Racing style, grooved or slick tires.
10. Friction style clutches only. No axle clutches.
11. Karts must be equipped with nerfing bars.
12. Brakes must be in good working order. Brake pedal must be securely fastened to assure it cannot come off
while kart is in motion.
13. Front and rear bumpers mandatory.
14. Chain guards are mandatory and must cover from front to rear sprocket.
15. Muffler silencers are mandatory and may not extend beyond rear bumper.
16. Bolts securing master cylinder and caliper must be safety wired or cotter keyed.
17. Wheel bearing should be properly adjusted so there is no excessive wheel play. Clip on wheel weights
cannot exceed 1/4 ounce each.
18. Karts are to be equipped with a throttle return spring to close throttle when released.
19. Front steering shall be of suitable design and in proper order, and properly adjusted for maximum safety.
20. All steering bolts, nuts and axle bolts will be cotter pinned, safety wired or snap ringed and must be exposed
for inspection.

Safety Equipment
1. Five point shoulder harnesses, safety belt and sub belts, dated not over 3 years.
2. Harnesses must be securely mounted.
3. High top style shoes. racing shoes recommended.
4. Arm restraints.
5. Neck braces or helmet restraints.
6. Fire retardant gloves.
7. Name brand flame retardant uniform.
8. Helmets must be one of the three latest Snell approved full head coverage competition types
Appearance
1. All karts shall be numbered in the following manner: 3 number plates with (black with white lettering or white
plates with red or black lettering) block style 6 inch numbers. One plate in front of kart, one plate in rear of kart,
one on upper right side of cage.
2. Numbers MUST be legible from the scoring tower.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If your kart malfunctions on the track before the first green flag lap is completed, a crew
member may restart your kart after you have been pushed to the designated area. You will be given two (2)
courtesy laps to restart your kart after it has reached the designated area. After that first green flag lap is
complete, you may not restart your kart.
