Yard Kart Rules

1. WEIGHT: 255#

2. Safety Equipment: All Karts must be equipped with a seatbelt, shoulder harness, and arm
Restraints. All drivers are required to wear suit/or jacket, gloves, neck brace, helmet, long sleeve shirt
and long pants. Drivers must wear arm restraints.

3. Frame: All karts must be equipped with a roll cage designed to protect the driver. The frame must
be welded directly to the main structure at a minimum of 4 places, with 2 in front and 2 in rear. The frame
of the kart cannot exceed 4” from the ground in clearance measured at the front and rear axle. All karts
must be equipped with a back bumper which extends across the back of kart to within 1” of outside of rear
tires.

4. Brakes: Stock brake system is allowed but disc brakes are strongly recommended.

5. Spindles: Spindles must be of standard fun kart design and spindle brackets must be welded
directly to a straight axle which must be part of the main structure of the frame.

6. Clutch: Noram or Max-torgue clutch only will be allowed. No Horstman racing clutches will be
allowed.

7. Gears: Split axle gears will be allowed.

8. Chain: 35# or 40# chain allowed. Chain guards are mandatory.

9. Crank Rope: Crank rope must remain attached to the engine.

10. Restrictor Plate: All Karts will be equipped with a .425 purple restrictor plate.

11. Fuel: Fuel must be pump gasoline only. Maximum Octane is 93%- No fuel additives allowed.

12. Kill Switch: A push button kill switch or toggle switch must be mounted on kart on steering
wheel or nearby within easy reach of driver.

13. Engine: Engine must be a 5 HP Briggs Stratton. Engine must be unaltered box stock with the
following allowances: Motor can be bored up to maximum of .020 (twenty thousands). You may remove
the choke and governor.
There will be a $350 “Motor Buy” in yard kart class by fellow competitors placing
behind and no further than 3rd place will be allowed to “buy” motor of top two finishers only.
You must run
a stock breather and stock muffler. No headers are allowed and no muffler on header allowed. Engine
must be located directly behind driver on a plate type
mount and welded to main structure of kart. Engine must have positive throttle return spring.
Carburetor must be a 5 HP only.

14. Protests: No protests will be allowed in yard kart class, your only option is to buy motor. Any
one competitor may “buy” only 1 motor per season.

15. Wheels: Wheels must be 2 pc non-adjustable type only. PART # 1144 Azusa 5 inch Diameter by
3 inches wide (Front) PART # 1117 Azusa 6 inch Diameter by 4 inches wide (Rear) Only.

16. Tires: Tires must be Turf Type only, no slicks allowed. Tire Height is Maximum of 13”, Tire width
on Front is 4” only – example: 11x400x5—Tire width on Rear is 5” only—example: 13x500x6.

THESE RULES ARE DESIGNED TO KEEP THE YARD KART CLASS A FUN CLASS FOR LEARNING
PURPOSES AND TO KEEP THE COST CONTAINED SO MORE RACERS CAN AFFORD TO
PARTICIPATE. IF YOU ARE NOT CLEAR ON ANY RULE, CHECK WITH A MEMBER OF TRACK
MANAGEMENT BEFORE ASSUMING LEGALITY.
